Note from the Director, Dell Deierling
Absolutely extraordinary! There’s no other way to describe the community of Marysville response to the needs of their neighbors during the holidays. And the task was large, with 7% more families needing food assistance than in 2011. In the end, through the Marysville Community Food Bank, nearly 1,300 families received holiday foods and almost 1,000 children found toys under the tree as the result of the town’s efforts. And, a substantial amount of food was staged at the Food Bank to provide a great start for serving folks in the New Year.
Thank you to all the volunteers that solicited food and toys, organized the goods, and ultimately served the people. Thank you to the 70 plus businesses that hosted “red barrels” for the collection of food and toys. Thank you to the service groups, clubs, churches, businesses, and individuals that provided support. Thank you to the Tulalip Tribes, US Navy, fire and police departments, and city employees for their extraordinary efforts. And a special thank you the students and staff of the local schools that provided tons of food and countless hours of volunteer time.
How well community members support each other speaks volumes about a community. This past holiday Marysville demonstrated once again that it is one terrific community.
